47 Years on the Job - Congrats on Retirement!

Aug. 11 2023 News By AHW LLC

After almost 47 years of excellence on the job, Roy Brucker will be a tough technician to replace! Roy started his career in 1977 when he was 18 years old. Roy began working at Arends and Sons in Gibson City, where he worked for 13 years. Throughout his years there, he worked in setup and transitioned to doing service calls out on the road. He was then asked to come work for Arends Brothers in Melvin, where he has worked for the past 34 years! He has primarily focused on servicing combines and 7000 Planters.

Roy first got into this career field because he grew up on a farm and had to help with planting and harvesting. When he was a young boy, his family didn’t have the money to have someone come out and work on their equipment, so he was forced to learn how to fix it to get through spring and fall.  Roy explained that where he grew up (Rural Sibley) is a very tight-knit farming community, so everyone would help and ensure you got things done.

When asking Roy about his work history with the company, he responded, “The reason I have stayed with the company is because everybody has always treated each other like family. I have grown very close to all the great coworkers I have worked alongside and the farmers I have worked with all these years.”

Roy gave the following advice to incoming service technicians. “The best piece of advice that I can give the new students about this kind of work would be to listen and ask questions if there is anything you don’t understand. At this time, I would say put down your phone and listen to the experience and knowledge that us older technicians have to give. Anyone can read how to do it, but technicians will show you how to do it! I have worked and taught many of them that still work here, and the one thing I will miss the most about retiring is the teaching.”

We are so proud of you and appreciate your devotion to this company. Here’s to wishing you a wonderful retirement! 🔰🛠️
